🕺 Hugo
Hugo lived his whole childhood in Rio de Janeiro and studied in several dance schools since he was 13, before focusing seriously on Brazilian Zouk and Samba de Gafieira in the renowned school of Renata Peçanha. From 2012, Hugo started teaching Brazilian ballroom dances. In 2013, he assisted Renata Peçanha in teaching at her school before leaving to continue on his own path. In April 2015, he participated in a ballroom dance competition in Rio de Janeiro where he helped Viviane Soares dance Brazilian Zouk and Samba de Gafieira and helped her place 1st in the competition. He went on to teach at various Brazilian and European events and travels in Europe teaching ever since.
Course topics
🎵 Accents - we’ll look at how to catch musical hits and let them show naturally in the movement.
🎵 Musical pauses & silence - We’ll play with moments where we don’t move much (or at all), using stillness to feel the connection and the music.
🎵 Speed changes - We’ll explore slowing things down and speeding them up, and how that changes the feeling of the dance.

What People Say
I started with two courses at once and there was so much to learn even at the basic level - I discovered many new and fundamentally important things that are also relevant for other dance styles. When starting partner dancing, I would definitely recommend zouk because firstly, it gives you a strong technical foundation (also for other dances); secondly, zouk has a very friendly and supportive community, with whom it's great to start and discover together. Thirdly - and this might be the most important - zouk allows you to search for and find new ways to express yourself in dance, to do it together in a very special atmosphere.
What surprised me most was how flowing and free this dance is. When I first came to a Zouk class, it felt like diving head-first into unknown waters. I had to somewhat throw away what I had learned before and focus on constant flow. Zouk opened a completely new dimension in dance - like communication between bodies without words! It gave dance a certain depth and charm that I hadn't experienced with other dances. Don't think about it for too long! For someone who values beauty, emotionality, and free self-expression in dancing, Zouk could offer lots of joy in discovery and personal growth. At first, the dance might seem unfamiliar, unusual, or even complicated. It's enough if you're open to this experience - you won't be alone because our community is extremely supportive and warm. I feel like I've found another home and a dear Zouk family to always come back to!
I was at the practice party after taking only two classes and it was very enjoyable. The community was super welcoming. Zouk allows you to express so many different emotions, since the music is so very different. You get confident with bouncy r'n'b moves as well as sensual flowy elements like head movements or body rolls. Zouk is not as hard as it might look. Learn basic step and come to the party! You will always find someone there to practice your basic step with
I just found the style interesting-looking and I had some friends who were doing it. Zouk feels very satisfying to dance - the dynamics and tension feels very different from any other social dance. There's much more air, many pauses and dynamics changes that create an experience that is always new. You can never really get bored as soon as you get in the flow with someone. I would say my favorite thing is the flow and connection for sure. I like how the scene is small and family-like. Also I like that in Zouk it is considered polite to dance multiple dances in a row with one partner - it allows you to build connection. It definitely improved my balance and coordination with dancing Zouk
